Manuscripts Burn

MANUSCRIPTS BURN

"Manuscripts don't burn"
- Mikhail Bulgakov

Hi, I'm horror and science fiction author Steve Kozeniewski (pronounced: "causin' ooze key.") Welcome to my blog! You can also find me on Facebook, Twitter, Goodreads, and Amazon. You can e-mail me here, join my mailing list here, or request an e-autograph here. Free on this site you can listen to me recite one of my own short works, "The Thing Under the Bed."

You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.

I had the misfortune of stumbling upon a particularly reactionary website recently.  (Well, "website" is a bit of a kindness...it was a Facebook page.)  I might, actually, under certain circumstances, post a link to a site I find so repellent, but this particular site portrays veterans such as myself in a very negative light, and I don't care to drive any traffic to them* (even what little traffic my modest blog drives.)  That being said, I do wish to comment on their mission statement, which is reproduced here verbatim:

"We are a page that is pro-America, pro-Military and vehemently against Communism, Globalization and anyone who supports them."

Although I don't care for the false dichotomy that being pro-America means being anti-any other thing, and I'm a big fan of the Oxford comma sadly neglected here, there's something else about this mission statement that made me scratch my head for a second and reach for my trust dictionary.  I'll save you, though, dear reader, the trouble, because that's just the kind of blogger I am.  Here's the Webster's definition of "globalization:"

"the development of an increasingly integrated global economy marked especially by free trade, free flow of capital, and the tapping of cheaper foreign labor markets"

So, yes, interestingly enough, this particular Facebook page is markedly unusual in that they are vehemently against both communism AND capitalism.  I'm not clear exactly what that leaves.  Feudalism, maybe.  I don't know that they necessarily know what globalization actually is (nor do They seemingly Understand the rules Of Capitalization.)

What it appears to be in actuality, though, is little more than a hate blog against our sitting president and commander-in-chief.  Which, I guess, somehow meets their definition of being pro-America and pro-military.  Go figure.

*(To be fair, I do also hate reading blog posts where the author makes a disclaimer like that and absolutely refuses to say what he or she is talking about.  So I will say this: if you are truly interested in finding the name of the Neanderthals to whom I am referring, you can simply copy and paste their mission statement into Google.  They will be the top result, and by just Googling it, you will not be forced to scour your eyeballs with lye later because I linked you directly to their "site.")
